We can try to act calm about a new Disney movie now that we’re “adults”, but it’s proving to become harder and harder to push our excitement aside for the upcoming live-action Aladdin.

Our animated favourites Genie (now Will Smith) and Aladdin (now Mena Massoud) have come to life to tell the 27 year old story through the creative directing of Guy Ritchie.

Will Smith recently took to Instagram to share the trailer featuring a (slightly) less creepy version of him as Genie. From what we’ve seen in the clip, the plot seems to follow a similar route to the original: “street rat” Aladdin enters the Cave of Wonders upon Jafar‘s request to retrieve the lamp, but ends up using it with the aim to become a prince and thus get with Princess Jasmine.

The live-action film will include the original soundtrack, although Ritchie and writer John August say the film is a bit of an unorthodox take in comparison to the original (don’t worry though, Abu is definitely included in the film).

Aladdin hits theatres on May 24, 2019, so check out the trailer below to see what you’re getting yourself into.

Now for something a bit more suited to our age, HBO released a trailer for their new series on the case of Serial’s Adnan Syed.
