Netflix has released the first teaser clip for season three of Stranger Things, just in time for summer (although those of us down under can’t relate). If you’re expecting to see something weird and spooky, subvert your expectations now.

It’s summertime in smalltown Indiana, and that means endless lounging by the pool. We see the return of season two antagonist Billy Hargrove (Dacre Montgomery) working as a lifeguard, much to the joy of the housewives of Hawkins. The mums, including Mike (Finn Wolfhard) and Nancy’s (Natalia Dyer) mum, check their puffed up curls before ogling the teenage bully. Yikes. Well, this was the 80s after all.

While the teaser doesn’t reveal any major plots or new characters, it’s definitely giving us major 80’s aesthetics. You definitely won’t see anyone today rocking a mullet. Netflix also released some new posters promoting the new season. Based on the tagline “one summer can change everything”, we can only guess our favourite gang of kids are gonna find themselves wrapped up in some wild shit again.

Stranger Things is set to return to Netflix on July 4, how very patriotic.

Let’s hope the writing for the new season stays consistently good, unlike the final season of Game of Thrones. It’s no spoiler that fans are angry, so much so that they rigged the google results for ‘bad writers’ to show the faces of the show creators. Yikes.
