Em had long struggled with prescription drug addiction. In 2011, he revealed the extend of this addiction: “The doctors told me I’d done the equivalent of four bags of heroin … they said I was about two hours from dying.”

At the height of his addiction, the Missouri-born rapper said he was consuming around 60 valium and 30 Vicodin pills per day, an affliction that would erase huge chunks of his memory.
