ORIGINAL STORY:

Way back in August of this year, the internet went crazy over a photo of Childish Gambino and Rihanna buddied up on what was speculated to be a movie set in Cuba.

And now as we know, the rumours were right.

Gambino confirmed our greatest dreams by previewing the trailer of the two’s upcoming movie Guava Island at PHAROS festival in New Zealand over the weekend, where we can see the Gambino and Rihanna alongside one another, as well as Black Panther’s Letitia Wright.

The film is also directed by none other than Hiro Murai, who also worked on Atlanta and multiple Gambino music videos. So naturally, we’re expecting the best.

Judging by what we’ve seen, it does seem that production could be close to wrapping up right now, if not already finished. There’s no release date just yet, but IMO it couldn’t come quicker.

UPDATE 10/4/19:

Speculation surrounding the release date of Guava Island has started to make waves over the past week; with ads beginning to pop up on Spotify promoting the film’s release on April 13th

The advertisement ends with Glover himself saying, “I’ll see you at the show everyone” – aligning the April 13th release date with his performance on Weekend 1 of Coachella.

This was confirmed by both YouTube and Coachella who have announced the debut of ‘Coachella Curated’, which will feature encores, live performances, artist interviews and more.

Weekend 1 of ‘Coachella Curated’ (April 12-14) will have live streams featuring the likes of Pusha T, Blood Orange, the 1975 and Childish Gambino.

We’re hoping to be lucky enough see Gambino release full film and praying it isn’t canned like his 2013 screenplay of Because The Internet (R.I.P.).
