FKA Twigs has recently dropped her latest single ‘sad day’ from her upcoming second studio album ‘MAGDALENE’.
The single is the fourth on a string of previous releases, which include ‘cellophane’, ‘holy terrain’ (featuring Atlanta rapper Future) and ‘home with you’.
The track is explores Twigs’ experience with heartbreak, as a concoction of 808s makes for an atmospheric and chaotic background. “Would you make a, make a, make a wish on my love,” she sings on the chorus.
In a press release, the British artist explained the entire album was created during a period of heartbreak. “I never thought heartbreak could be so all-encompassing. The process of making this album has allowed me for the first time to find compassion when I have been at my most ungrateful, confused, and fractured.”
FKA Twigs also revealed that the music video for ‘sad day’ will be directed by Hiro Murai, the mastermind behind Childish Gambino’s ‘This is America’, as well as his comedy-drama series Atlanta. Apparently the music video will also feature Twigs doing wushu, a Chinese martial art involving sword-fighting. After learning to pole dance for the ‘cellophane’ music video, is there any talent she can’t conquer?
MAGDALENE will be the 31-year-old’s second studio album, succeeding her critically-acclaimed 2014 release ‘LP1’. Expect to hear it in all its glory when it releases later this week, on Friday 8 November.
Listen to ‘sad day’ below, and fair warning, you might want to keep your tissues handy.
