Legendary designer Kim Jones of fashion house Dior has confirmed an official collaboration with Shawn Stussy.

Stussy left the streetwear label back in 1996, but is coming out of retirement for the new Dior Pre-Fall 2020 menswear collection. In an Instagram post, Stussy wrote: “Kim has brought me out of retirement to work with him and his Dior family on fall 2020… I gotta say here now how good a vibe and how natural this project has felt for me before this thing breaks in a day or so…”

In a recent interview with Women’s Wear Daily, the label founder also said: “There wasn’t much luring. I was just in a good place in my adventure, and he’s in a good place, and the stars just seemed to kind of line up. And if I’m going to come out for one last hurrah, why not with Dior? That’s the way I look at it. It’s the very top of the top. I have nothing but respect.”

Hints of the collaboration first dropped when Dior posted a video on Instagram, with Stussy’s distinct graffiti-style lettering was used throughout. Jones had nothing but high praises for the Stussy brand, which has been around since 1980:

“I used to wear it head-to-toe all the time in my teens. It was something I was really, really, really obsessed by. I’ve [still] got boxes of it. For me to work with someone like Shawn is a real honour. He’s an artist, that’s the thing. If you can work that line like that, and it’s that memorable, it’s like an artist. That’s why I wanted to do it with him: he’s made an iconic image with his hand.”

Since his appointment to Dior, Jones has worked with high-profile artists among the likes of KAWS, Hajime Sorayama and Daniel Arsham. Dior’s Pre-Fall 2020 menswear collection will debut on December 3 at Miami Art Basel. Stay tuned to see what mix of streetwear and luxury these two fashion aficionados come up with.

Dior and Stussy aren’t the only brands linking up – Prada took its own spin on adidas’ iconic Superstar shoe, with a matching bowling bag. The collab will be dropping worldwide on December 4, and it’s limited to only 700 pairs. Have a look at them here.
